ITAD Services — IT Asset Disposition
IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) is the structured process for retiring IT equipment while ensuring data security, regulatory compliance, and environmental responsibility. We handle the full lifecycle — from pickup to destruction to certified recycling.
🏢 Data Center Decommissioning
Complete decommissioning of data centers and server rooms. We handle all phases: asset cataloging, secure transport, data destruction, and R2-certified recycling. Full chain-of-custody documentation throughout.
- Servers, switches, and routers
- Storage arrays (NAS/SAN/RAID)
- UPS systems and PDUs
- Tape libraries and backup systems
🔄 IT Refresh & Lifecycle Management
When your organization upgrades IT equipment, we ensure all old devices are disposed of securely and compliantly. Prevent data breaches from improperly discarded equipment.
- End-of-lease equipment return
- Technology refresh programs
- Office moves and closures
- Remote worker device recovery
📋 Compliance & Documentation
Every ITAD engagement includes comprehensive documentation: asset inventory reports, Certificate of Destruction for each item destroyed, recycling certificates, and audit-ready compliance reports.
- HIPAA audit documentation
- SOX compliance records
- NIST SP 800-88 compliant
- R2/e-Stewards recycling cert
Backup Tape Shredding — LTO, DLT, DAT & More
Backup tapes are one of the most overlooked data security risks in any organization. Unlike hard drives, tapes cannot be wiped with software — and unlike optical discs, they can’t simply be shredded in a regular paper shredder. They require specialized media destruction equipment.
Our industrial tape shredders handle all formats:
- LTO (Linear Tape-Open) — LTO-4 through LTO-9
- DLT & SDLT — All SuperDLT and standard DLT formats
- DAT — DDS-1 through DDS-6, DAT-72, DAT-160, DAT-320
- QIC, VXA, AIT — Legacy tape formats accepted
- 3480/3490/3590 — IBM mainframe tape cartridges

Frequently Asked Questions — Media Destruction
What is ITAD and why do I need it?
ITAD stands for IT Asset Disposition — the secure, compliant process for disposing of retired IT equipment. You need it because simply throwing away or donating old computers, servers, and storage devices exposes your organization to serious data breach risks and regulatory penalties. HIPAA fines for improper PHI disposal can reach $1.9 million per violation category. A proper ITAD process ensures data is completely destroyed and documented, protecting you legally and operationally.
Can CDs and DVDs be securely destroyed?
Yes — we shred CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs using specialized optical media shredders that reduce them to tiny fragments. Standard cross-cut paper shredders that can accept CDs still leave readable fragments. Our industrial shredders reduce optical media to pieces 5mm or smaller, making data recovery impossible. This is essential for organizations that store patient records, financial data, or sensitive information on optical discs.
What is the difference between media shredding and degaussing?
Degaussing uses powerful magnetic fields to scramble data on magnetic media (HDDs, tapes). It is effective for traditional magnetic media but completely ineffective for optical media (CDs, DVDs), flash media (SSDs, USB drives, SD cards), or modern HDDs using perpendicular recording. Physical shredding works for all media types — it’s the universal, guaranteed solution regardless of what type of storage you have.
How does data center decommissioning work?
Our data center decommissioning process typically follows these steps: (1) We conduct an on-site assessment and create an asset inventory. (2) Our team removes equipment with chain-of-custody tracking. (3) All storage media is destroyed on-site or at our secure facility. (4) Remaining equipment is disassembled and sent to R2-certified recyclers. (5) You receive a complete Certificate of Destruction, asset disposal report, and recycling certificates. The entire process is typically completed within 1–5 business days depending on data center size.
Do you handle HIPAA-compliant media destruction?
Yes — we are NAID AAA Certified, which is the gold standard for HIPAA compliance in data destruction services. We provide a Certificate of Destruction that documents the destruction of all PHI-containing media. Our process satisfies HIPAA Security Rule requirements for the disposal of electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) under 45 CFR §164.310(d)(2)(i). Hospitals, medical practices, insurance companies, and other covered entities use our services regularly.
What is the minimum quantity for media destruction service?
There is no minimum — we serve individuals who have a handful of old discs or tapes as well as enterprises destroying millions of media items. For small quantities, our mail-in service is the most cost-effective option. For larger quantities, on-site service or scheduled pickup provides the best value and strongest chain-of-custody documentation.
